One of the greatest joys of my voice-over career has been sharing this world with my 8-year-old son. Watching him step into the booth—my booth!—and bring scripts to life with his youthful energy and charm is nothing short of magical. It's a shared passion that has deepened our connection and given me a fresh perspective on the craft.
He has this natural ability to "A, B, C" his lines (for those outside the industry, that's trying different reads of the same line with subtle variations) better than some adults I know! It’s not just adorable—it’s genuinely impressive. His intuition and willingness to explore different deliveries remind me of the creative freedom that makes this job so rewarding.
Dubbing: A Creative Boost for Reading
Watching him work on dubbing projects has been especially rewarding. Not only is it fun to see him sync his lines with animated and live action characters, but it’s also helping him develop critical skills. Dubbing requires precision, timing, and focus, and I’ve noticed how much his reading fluency has improved since he started. He’s learning to break sentences into meaningful chunks and adapt his tone, pace, and emotion on the fly—all while having a blast.
A Budding Editor in the Making
Lately, he’s taken an interest in the technical side of things, asking questions about editing and the software I use. He’s fascinated by the idea of shaping raw audio into polished performances. Who knows? Maybe he’s the next generation of voice talent and sound engineer!
What makes this experience so special is the shared joy we both get from it. He sees what I do for a living, and instead of just observing, he’s diving in himself. Whether it’s a silly character voice or a heartfelt performance, I love watching him discover how much fun it is to bring words to life.
Voice-over has always been about connection for me—connection with listeners, with stories, and now, with my son. Sharing my booth, my craft, and my passion with him has been an unexpected but deeply rewarding part of this journey.
I can’t wait to see where this shared interest takes us. Maybe one day he’ll be editing my sessions!
